about asylumfest

AsylumFest is a three-day horror book and pop culture festival held within the historic Mayday Hills, a former 1800s psychiatric facility in Beechworth, Victoria.

 

The festival features panels, workshops, dealer's tables, and gaming, along with the Mayday Hills Ghost Story Competition, the Mayday Hills Short Horror Film Competition, and two scholarships for creatives.

Mayday hills

Mayday Hills operated from 1867 to 1995 and was one of the largest mental health facilities in Victoria, housing over 1,200 patients and 500 staff at its peak. Today, it is a heritage site that hosts various cultural and artistic activities, including ghost and history tours.

Beechworth

Beechworth is approximately three hours from Melbourne by car via the Hume Freeway. Alternative transportation options include bus and train services from Melbourne, taking around five hours, or flights from Sydney or Melbourne to Albury, which is about 40 km from Beechworth.

 

For navigation to Mayday Hills, using "Asylum Ghost Tours" in Google Maps will direct you to the festival car park.

Accommodation

Accommodation options in Beechworth include the George Kerferd Hotel and The Linaker Motel, both within walking distance of AsylumFest, as well as two caravan parks with onsite cabins: Lake Sambell Caravan Park and Beechworth Holiday Park.
